Thanks US Senators & Representatives!

Hello Friends & Neighbors!

Today i would like to take time out to Thank Our Elected State Senators/Representatives and especially Mr. Bob Corker (TN) for his visit to a small town in TN yesturday.

This was my 1st Town Hall and did not know what to expect either from Mr. Corker or the great number of people who filled the conference room at TN Tech. I sat quietly, taking notes as i carefully listened to the Senator, the questions being asked and his manerisms and the answers he gave back. All in all it was a very civil "mob" of people with strong opinions, heartfelt stories, and a need to know exactly where Our Elected Official stood on the issues that mattered most to each individual.
The major issues were Health Care Reform and a Resounding "We vote NO on the Presiden'ts plan for reform", and a deep concern over this Country's (and that means Gov't) treatment and care for Our Heros serving the Armed Forces - Active & Veteran.
I must say that i did not expect a Senator to possess any great Listening skills, and i was surprized at his compassion and empathy he showed to each person willing to take a stand, find their voice and confront him. His answers were candid and honest. Suprizingly, i found him to possess the same values & morals those of in the room shared.
I was there for my own reason and agenda also.
Eating Disorders being explicitly put on the Health Parity & Addiction Act of 2008 (passed on 10-3-08).
I timidly rose my hand slightly with resolve for my chance to speak up. When I stood, my mind went blank and all i could say was, "Hello, my name is Barbara Thornton, also known as Lady Limu and i have suffered with Anorexia for the past 25 years only starting my recover 2 years ago with the help of Original Limu." Then i fumbled my way through getting around to asking him where he stands on this issue and will he support the explicit Eating Disorder language on this Act which goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2010.
Then, i guess i was so incensed at the crowds earlier jabs and complaints about the current healthcare system & insurance companies, Rx's, Dr.s, etc... that i just looked around the room and said,
"I have listened to everyone complain about the health "Care" system, but don't ya'all realize that care of Your health starts with You?" at this there were cheers. "If You don't take care of Your Own Health and then You get a degenerative disease why is the system supposed to take care of You??" More cheers.
"Well, that all i guess. Thank You and i'd like to know where you stand."

As i stood there waiting for his answer i was shaking like leaf from the inside out and hoped noone could see me tremble. This was my 1st time ever, standing in a group of strangers and friends, that i admitted my Anorexia.
Sure, i write in this box, but when the words come out Your mouth and Your ears hear them, knowing that there other eyes and ears to witness what You, Yourself just heard.
Anyways, after just a couple agonizing seconds, he says,
"Well, to be perfectly honest with You, driving here today, Eating Disorders was definately Not on my mind." We all laughed. Probably not. LOL
"I was not aware of this. It sounds as if its already been passed."
"Yes, but it doesn't go into effect until Jan. 2010. Without Eating Disorders explicitly stated on the leglislation - You know the Gov't, if it's not in black and white it doesn't exist."
"Will You email me more information on this. I cannot make promises about what i do not know. But i will promise You that as long as I'm on Capitol Hill, Eating Disorders will not be forgotten by me.
"On the second half of Your comment? I agree with You. We all -including myself- all eat and drink things we should not and put poisons in our bodies which do create the (types of degenerative) diseases. Yes, If we all took better care of our bodies then You're right, there would not be such a strain on the (current) Health Care System."

FINALLY!! Some Body in the US Gov't who has common sense thinking!
We don't need "HealthCare" Reform.
America Needs YOUR Health!
That Health IS Your responsibility.

Eating Disorders is a real and deadly disease if left undiagnosed and untreated. Both of wich need information given out to the Public and our Health Care Proffessionals. Generation X is riddled with this disease and we have passed it down to Our Children. This disease is Completely Preventable, Treatable and Curable with Nutrition and a good support system.
This is why i broke my SILENCE and found my Voice.

Listen, Your State Officials that YOU Elected are running this Gov't. Do not be afraid to contact them or their office with Your concerns, complaints and Especially Your Praise for the hard work they do. I'm sure it's not easy to get up in front of a hundred or so people, knowing that alot of them are very disgruntled (to say the least) at how Our Gov't is handling this now. You never know what to expect-just like my Eating Disorders out of the blue.
But know this, each and every one on Capitol Hill is there because You wanted them to represent Your Values, Morals and way of life. They can only do this IF You are willing to communicate with them.

So, Thank You Unites States Senators and Representatives of Your State and the Peoples that live there! A Special Thank You to those of You who went into the trenches at these Town Hall Meetings in Your Districts to bring Information, News, Enlightenment and Hope to The People that make up this Great Nation!

We have NOT given up on America and Thanks to efforts made by Mr. Bob Corker and his collegues over this summer break, I know Our voices will be heard on Capitol Hill and in front of the President as these Brave Men & Women take Their turn to stand and be the Voice of their People as leglislation is put forth that would affect the Generations to come.
